The father of a Utah Marine killed in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport honored his son by flying several U.S. flags on his lawn. In an interview on Friday, the father of 31-year-old Darin Taylor Hoover Jr. said he wants people to know who his son is and how much he loved his country.
Hoover had reportedly been serving in the Marines for 11 years and was on his third deployment to Afghanistan. His father said he was doing for others what they couldn’t do for themselves and made the ultimate sacrifice.
“He loves his country. He loves people. He led his men into that and they followed him. But I know in my heart of hearts he was out front and they followed him into the gates of Hell,” said Hoover’s father. “And ultimately, that’s pretty much what he did, just to help preserve our freedoms.”
Utah Congressman Chris Stewart (R) expressed his condolences to Hoover’s family, saying “the loved ones of this hero have my full support and immeasurable gratitude. This soldier’s heroism will never be forgotten.”
Yesterday, the state of Utah lost one of its finest in a tragic act of terror. A Marine from Utah made the ultimate sacrifice during the bombing in Kabul.
The loved ones of this hero have my full support and immeasurable gratitude. This soldier’s heroism will never be forgotten.
