A Chicago police officer was released from the hospital after being wounded during a shoot out. Over the weekend, an unidentified 30-year-old officer was reportedly responding to a call of gun shots in South Shore when she saw an injured person in the middle of the road.

According to authorities, the officer was struck several times in the leg as she got out of her vehicle to assist the individual. She was transferred to the hospital shortly after.

One person was fatally shot and a teen was wounded during the incident the officer was responding to.

“We have 2 people in custody. We have one individual who’s been deceased and then there’s a 15-year-old who is still in critical condition at the hospital,” explained Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan, Chicago Police Department. “We’ve recovered two handguns so far and we’ve also recovered a rifle during the execution of a search warrant. What we do know is there was an exchange of gunfire between the two individuals and the individual who was returning home.”

Meanwhile, the wounded officer reportedly told fellow officers she would be back to work soon and assured them she would not quit.
