Republican congressman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) recently called out Democrats for being “the party of the wealthy.” During a press conference Tuesday, the Missouri lawmaker slammed Democrats for their budget proposal.

Smith said the bill allows for wealthy Americans to receive tax write-offs, which the less wealthy do not qualify for. He also slammed “free college” proposals and “luxury tax credits” as being a ploy to help the wealthy and not working class Americans.

“They are the party of the wealthy, that’s who they represent,” stated the Republican lawmaker. “You can’t deny it, that’s why this bill provides that if you make $800,000 a year you can get huge luxury tax credit for your electric vehicle. That’s why you can get tax breaks for your electric bikes. That’s why millionaires kids can get free college. ”

The representative went on to assert this piece of  Democrat legislation is “all loaded of helping the wealthy at the expense of the working class. ” Meanwhile, data from the IRS shows Democrats represent 65 percent of American households making over half-a-million dollars annually.
