An investigation has been underway after a man allegedly opened fire inside a Philadelphia hospital, which left one workers dead and two police officers injured. According to reports on Monday, the 55-year-old gunman fatally shot a 43-year-old nursing assistant inside Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Investigators said the suspect was an employee at the hospital. He entered the building while carrying what was believed to be an AR-15 and fired multiple rounds.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a U-Haul truck before officers located him and exchanged gunfire.
“That male, who is the shooter, fired at the officers and four of the officers returned fire. Two of the 16th district officers were struck by the gunfire,” explained Danielle Outlaw, Philadelphia Police commissioner. “The first officer is a 30-year-old who was struck in the right elbow. He is in critical, but stable condition. The second officer is a 32-year-old, who was struck in the nose, who is in stable condition.”
Authorities added both officers were expected to survive as well as the suspect, who has been in critical condition.
