The Dolley Madison Library in Fairfax County, Virginia, came under fire earlier this week after displaying gender-theory books next to the Bible. They have since removed the display.
The display featured three gnomes each with either the Bible, “Lawn Boy,” or “Gender Queer.”
“The gnomes with ‘Lawn Boy’ and ‘Gender Queer’ had bees on their stocking-hats, while the gnome with the Bible had a rainbow-colored hat, along with other rainbow paraphernalia,” Fox News reported.
According to Fox News, “‘Lawn Boy,’ by Jonathan Evison, includes long sections of a boy reminiscing about explicit experiences he had at 10 years old.
A Daily Wire review of the autobiographical comic found, it shows a nonbinary teenager and young adult who says her “sexual fantasies involved two male partners” and whose sister tells her to “taste yourself,” leading her to put what she calls “vagina slime” on her finger. In her journey of self-discovery, Maia visits the headquarters of a porn company that produced films called “Public Disgrace,” “Bound in Public,” and “Hardcore Gangbangs.”
On Tuesday, the library issued a statement and apology and took down the controversial display. “The Dolley Madison Library holiday reading display was intended to highlight the freedom to read and the fact that many library patrons have more time during the holidays to do so,” Fairfax County Public Library Director Jessica Hudson said in the statement. “It was not the intention of staff to create a display that could be construed as offensive. The display has been removed.”
This is not the first time controversy has arisen surrounding these books in Fairfax County. In November, parents in Fairfax County protested outside the school board meeting, opposing what they claim is “porn in schools.”
“They’ve doubled down on porn in the schools. They’ve all got to go,” Stacy Langton, a Fairfax County mother said. “Who’s in favor of porn in the schools?”
The protest was sparked by Fairfax County Public Schools reinstating the books “Lawn Boy” and “Gender Queer.” The committee that reviewed the books stated, “After deliberate and lengthy discussions on the potential merits and concerns of the book as a literary work, and the potential merits and concerns associated with retaining or removing access to the book from students using school libraries, the committees unanimously recommended that the books should remain available.”
Their reason for reinstating “Lawn Boy” was that it “is an accessible examination of race, class, socio-economic struggle, and sexual identity.” For “Gender Queer,” the committee said, “The book is a well-written, scientifically based narrative of one person’s journey with gender identity that contains information and perspective that is not widely represented.”
Both books, along with the Bible, have now been removed from the public library’s display, but that’s not enough for some parents. Langton said she’s planning a protest outside the library on Saturday.
“The timing on this – it’s an intentional dig,” Langton said. “It’s a dig on the parents who object to pornography and pedophilia-themed materials in the library, and it’s a dig on Christians as a whole. I think everybody knows where Jesus stands on pedophilia. … The tolerant Left is giving you guys some holiday hate. Merry Christmas, taxpayers of Fairfax County, Merry Christmas.”
