On Monday, President Joe Biden implied that the deaths of 13 U.S. service members during his disastrous withdrawal strategy from Afghanistan were inevitable.
“Everybody says, ‘you could’ve gotten out without anybody being hurt,’” Biden said of Afghanistan to CBS News correspondent Rita Braver. “No one’s come up with a way to indicate to me how that happens.”

Thirteen U.S. service members were killed in August following a radical Islamic terror attack in Kabul during the final days of Biden’s withdrawal from the country.
“A U.S. official confirmed that a 13th U.S. service member has died as a result of injuries received in the attack at the Kabul airport,” ABC News reported at the time. As The Daily Wire noted, at least a dozen more American service members were seriously injured, including 10 U.S. Marines and one U.S. Navy hospital corpsman. Several service members are believed to be in critical condition.
“The U.S. fatalities were the first in Afghanistan since February 2020, when former President Donald Trump and the Taliban signed an agreement to withdraw U.S. troops from the country,” The Week reported. “The 13 troops killed Thursday made the attack the deadliest since August 2011, when militants shot down a Chinook helicopter, killing 31 Americans, seven Afghans and a military dog,” according to The Wall Street Journal.
The bombing occurred at a final checkpoint for evacuees before entering Hamid Karzai International Airport, where U.S. service members were screening potential individuals for some of the last rescue flights out of Afghanistan before the U.S. military officially withdrew on August 31st.
Other explosions were heard throughout the day, but officials said those were coalition forces destroying military equipment as part of the evacuation process.
The terror group known as “ISIS-K” claimed responsibility for the terror attack that killed at least 13 U.S. service members and at least 95 Afghans.
As The Daily Wire reported, Biden boasted that he would be willing to lose his presidency over his Afghanistan strategy.
“But look: one of the things we did decide, and I mean this, my word as a Biden, I know what I’m willing to lose over,” Biden told Braver. “If we walk away from the middle class, if we walk away from trying to unify people, if we start to engage in the same kind of politics that the last four years has done? I’m willing to lose over that.”
“You mean, you’re willing to lose your presidency?” Braver asked.
“My presidency, that’s right,” Biden responded. “Because I’m gonna stick with it. There’s certain things that are just, like for example Afghanistan. Well, I’ve been against that war in Afghanistan from the very beginning. We were spending $300 million a week in Afghanistan, over 20 years.”
