Novelist and journalist Joan Didion passes away at age 87.

On Thursday her publisher Penguin Random House confirmed her death. The essayist died from issues from Parkinson’s in her home in New York.

Her specialty was her commentary on culture and politics. She’s known for writing different novels including “Blue Nights” and “The Year of Magical Thinking” which was acclaimed for her narrating the tragedies of her husband’s and daughter’s deaths.
