On Friday, following co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s incendiary comments about the Holocaust earlier in the week, “The View” co-host Sara Haines ripped people who felt that Goldberg’s two-week suspension from the show was insufficient punishment, pontificating, “To learn from a moment is all we can ask of anyone. And prioritizing punitive measures at the expense of the message/issue (and teaching moment) are misguided.”

Prior to that Instagram message, Haines had posted a photograph of her and Goldberg snapping a selfie on the set of the show, captioning it, “This just popped up and warmed my heart. That’s my Whoops!!!!” as The Daily Mail reported. She followed by adding a message on Instagram stating, “I’d like to invite people trolling the post to go play somewhere else. To learn from a moment is all we can ask of anyone. And prioritizing punitive measures at the expense of the message/issue (and teaching moment) are misguided.”

The original controversy was triggered by a conversation on the show on Monday in which Goldberg, discussing the Holocaust, said, “This is white people doing it to white people,” then later added, “The Holocaust isn’t about race. No. It’s not about race,” and repeated, “These are two white groups of people.”

On Tuesday night, The Daily Beast reported that some of Goldberg’s co-hosts were reportedly “furious” at the network for suspending her after her incendiary comments regarding the Holocaust.

“Multiple sources said that Goldberg’s co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Ana Navarro are furious with the network’s decision,” The Daily Beast stated.

Navarro, who intermittently guest-hosts on the program and was appearing on the show when Goldberg made her comments on Monday, told The Daily Beast, “I love Whoopi Goldberg. I love The View. … This was an incredibly unfortunate incident. Whoopi is a lifelong ally to the Jewish community. She is not an antisemite. Period. I am sad. And I have nothing else to say.”

As The Daily Wire reported, Kim Godwin, president of ABC News, said that Goldberg would be suspended for “her wrong and hurtful comments” about the Holocaust, which included her repeatedly claiming that the Holocaust was “not about race.”

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” Godwin said. “The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Meanwhile, The New York Post reported that a source they described as a well-placed insider said that Goldberg was “livid” and felt “humiliated” over the suspension.

“She feels ABC executives mishandled this. She followed their playbook. She went on ‘The Late Show With Steven Colbert’ and then apologized again on ‘The View’ the next day,” the source told the Post. “Her ego has been hurt and she’s telling people she’s going to quit. Suspension from ‘The View’ is like getting suspended from Bravo. The bar is very low.”
