Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves McConaughey opened up about their decision to move from Malibu, California, to Texas for a life that “embodies” their “belief system.”
“It’s been great,” the Brazilian model and designer shared, reported Fox News in a piece published Tuesday. “It really embodies our belief system, especially the ones I grew up with, like going to church every Sunday, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no, sir.’”
“I grew up saying those things coming from a family of farmers,” she added. “For me, being from Brazil and then coming to Texas, I discovered a lot of similarities in terms of what families practice here, especially going to church on Sundays, and being very into the outdoors. It’s been a great transition.”
“We lived in Malibu for many years and having the paparazzi outside our door every day — every single day — when that becomes your normal, you don’t realize how much that’s actually affecting the things you do until you actually leave and get out of it,” the superstar actor’s wife continued. “The kids get to have a private way of growing up. So from that perspective, it was very important.”
Alves recently put out her first children’s book called “Just Try One Bite” which she said isn’t about scolding parents and telling them what to feed their kids. But said instead it’s about comical reversal of roles which puts parents in the position of being the picky eaters who are confronted by their kids.
“Look, I’m not here to tell parents how to feed their kids,” Camila explained. “I just want to share the importance of having a connection with food. I’m a big believer that if you start the conversation early on, you are likely setting up your kids with lifelong good habits versus not talking about it all and just going through the motions.”
The actor’s wife said their home is just like everyone else’s as the two work together to raise their three children, Levi, 13, Vida, 12, and Livingston, 9.
Alves and the “Interstellar” star tied the knot in 2012 and said even though it is hard to make time for date nights, sometimes the couple just steals away for a minute to reconnect.
“Sometimes it’s as simple as a staycation,” Camila shared. “Or, ‘I’m sending the kids over to a family member, so we can stay home and have a drink together.’
“I have this thing — we have a tree on our property,” she added. “I sometimes say to Matt, ‘Let’s meet today before dinner and watch the sunset under the tree.’ We’ll just sit under the tree and have a drink together. It’s about sharing those simple little moments together in between everything that’s going on. It’s about those little moments to keep reconnecting.”
