Tesla and SpaceX Founder Elon Musk has been tweeting a lot about Twitter after his recent appointment to the tech company’s board of directors.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, he was at it again – this time jokingly asking his followers if Twitter should adjust its name. “Delete the w in Twitter?” Musk asked in a poll that received over one million votes in just seven hours. The options for voters were “Yes” and “Of course.”

Last Thursday, The Daily Wire reported that some Twitter employees are getting nervous about Musk’s new influence over the company, according to Reuters. “News of Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk taking a board seat at Twitter has some Twitter employees panicking over the future of the social media firm’s ability to moderate content, company insiders told Reuters,” the outlet reported.
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced Musk’s appointment to the board of directors last Tuesday, tweeting, “I’m excited to share that we’re appointing @elonmusk to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board. He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on @Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term. Welcome Elon!”

The announcement from Twitter’s CEO came just a day after Musk became the company’s largest shareholder, taking on a 9% stock in the company. It was also revealed later in the week that Musk talked with The Babylon Bee before he bought the stock.
“Musk reached out to us before he polled his followers about Twitter’s commitment to free speech,” Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon said. “He wanted to confirm that we had, in fact, been suspended. He even mused on that call that he might need to buy Twitter. Now he’s the largest shareholder and has a seat on the board.”
The satire site was locked out of its Twitter account after writing an article that named transgender Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine as its “Man of the Year.”
“I just received this notice that we’ve been locked out of our account for ‘hateful conduct,’” Dillion said after Twitter took action against his company’s account. Dillon wrote that Twitter told the Bee that the account could be restored 12 hours after the company deletes the tweet linking to the article on Levine. Dillon told his followers that they don’t plan on deleting the tweet. “We’re not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it,” he wrote.

Musk has been outspoken about his desire to push for change at Twitter. “Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months,” he tweeted in reply to Agrawal’s announcement, but no one should expect that Musk will actually advocate for Twitter to drop the “W” from its name.
