Thandiwe Newton is no longer part of the “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” cast, her reps have confirmed. A statement from the actress blamed her departure on “family matters,” but sources revealed to The Sun that at least one reason for her leaving is a huge fight she had with Channing Tatum over Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The latest “Magic Mike” installment was 11 days into filming when the alleged incident occurred. Sources didn’t indicate which sides of the argument Newton and Tatum took, but said their fight escalated to become “astonishing” and “unimaginably vicious.” It ended with Tatum getting into a car and driving away from the set.

“Channing Tatum is the producer and number one on set. Thandiwe Newton is the number two star. But 11 days into shooting and it’s all over,” the source told The Sun.

“They fell out over the debacle at The Oscars. I was on set. I watched her and watched him. They were in and out of the house where we were filming having this confrontation,” the insider continued. “It was a tense exchange of words, but suddenly it escalated. Channing got into this car and he disappeared.”

The insider also mentioned that Newton was acting like a “diva” before that fight. “After the row he just went, ‘I am not working with her anymore.’ Him being a producer, it’s his movie, so she’s off the movie,” the source said.

Director Steven Soderbergh tried to help the two actors reconcile, but was unsuccessful. “He was trying to calm things down but he’s a very quiet man,” the crew member explained.

Now Newton’s leading role has been recast. According to Variety, the part will now be played by Salma Hayek.

A spokesperson for the movie studio denied the allegations, saying Newton did in fact leave for personal reasons. “Thandiwe Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance to deal with family matters,” the statement read, according to Page Six.

This isn’t the first shocking moment for the new “Magic Mike” film. The Sun reported that there’s been increased security on the British set due to crowds of women trying to harass the actors.

“It starts as a bit of fun and it’s great that the fans are so engaged. They’re just passionate — and plainly sex-starved! But after a while it has become problematic and there are now a lot of fans trying to get hold of the guys pretty much everywhere they go,” a source told The Sun.

“The security team are concerned about what they might be prepared to do just to get their hands on them. Obviously the previous films have had a huge impact but also left this legion of horny, middle-aged women, who are making it their business to know the guys’ every move and follow them all over the place,” the insider said. “Sadly, the only option has been to move things around and take security precautions by bringing in some proper heavies to make sure nobody gets hurt.”
