Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday the arrival of his state’s eighth bus of illegal immigrants arriving in Washington, D.C., vowing to continue the effort “every single day” as the Biden administration continues its failure to address the border crisis.
Abbott shared the remarks during an interview on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Tuesday.
“We will continue the busing process every single day for the reason that I think you mentioned earlier on,” Abbott said. “And that is the Biden administration has been dumping off these migrants by the hundreds in local communities that do not have the ability to take care or deal with.”
Abbott argued the move shifted the burden from small communities in his state to Washington, D.C., where President Joe Biden can experience what it’s like to have large numbers of illegal immigrants released in his community.
“These migrants are being dropped off – and as opposed to them being there in these small communities or the small communities having to spend money dealing with it, we decided to bus them to Washington, D.C.,” he added.
The Texas governor also noted that the Lone Star State is also considering other locations to send those who cross its border illegally, including Biden’s home state of Delaware.
“People in Delaware are going to see what the people in Texas are having to grapple with,” Abbott added.
A sixth bus transporting illegal immigrants from Texas to Washington, D.C., arrived late Sunday as Abbott continued to follow through on his promise to send migrants to the capital in response to Biden’s border policies.
The arrival was streamed live on Facebook by WUSA-9 TV near Union Station at Delaware Avenue NE and Columbus Circle NE.
The video recorded approximately 20 migrants departing the bus.
Last Wednesday and Thursday, the first two busses of illegal immigrants arrived from Texas to the nation’s capital. A press release from Abbott’s office stated the migrants included citizens from Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
“As the federal government continues to turn a blind eye to the border crisis, the State of Texas will remain steadfast in our efforts to fill in the gaps and keep Texans safe,” Abbott said in the statement.
“By transporting migrants to Washington, D.C., the Biden Administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border. Texas should not have to bear the burden of the Biden Administration’s failure to secure our border,” he added.
The efforts are part of the state’s Operation Lone Star, a multi-agency effort to respond to the surge of migrants at the border since Biden has been in office.
