It seems like everyone has had strong reactions to the world’s richest man Elon Musk purchasing Twitter, and reactions from political figures have been especially amusing. Hollywood celebrities are also sharing their opinions on the behemoth social media platform most likely allowing free speech again.
Actress Jameela Jamil, who is an outspoken leftist and LGBT advocate, reacted by claiming she was done with the platform for good.
“Ah he got twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet,” the “Good Place” actress shared with her one million followers. “I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck.”
Actor Rob Reiner wrote, “Now that Elon Musk is buying Twitter, the question for all of us is: Will he allow a Criminal who used this platform to lie and spread disinformation to try to overthrow the US Government to return and continue his Criminal activity? And if he does, how do we combat it?”
Rapper Ice-T also weighed in on purchase when it was still just an unconfirmed rumor. “It would [be] kinda dope if Musk bought Twitter and just shut it off…. Lol,” he shared.
After getting a lot of negative comments on his feed, the “Law and Order” actor clarified his position, which he insisted was not political. “For the Record.. I’m not on the Left or the Right. Red or the Blue.. That’s Gang Bangin if you ask me… #Politricks,” he said.
Following the historic acquisition, Ice Cube tweeted, “Free at last! @elonmusk take off my shadow ban homie…”
Marvel star Simu Liu responded to the news of Musk’s acquisition by saying, “Was there nothing better to do with 44 billion dollars?”
This sentiment was expressed by several other less famous Twitter users, who mused on how Musk should have used his money to “solve homelessness” or somehow curtail the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Kim Kardashian’s friend, reality television personality Jonathan Cheban, wrote, “Twitter about to pop the F*%# off!!!”
Singer Kevin Jonas of Jonas Brothers fame shared, “Will we now get the edit tweet option?”
Musk has already polled his followers on whether they’d like to see an edit button on Twitter.
Noted conservative actor James Woods cheered the move, saying, “I’ve never been a proponent of electric cars, nor do I ever wish to fly into space. That said, @elonmusk is a hero. He proved that capitalism will crush socialism every time. #BravoElonMusk.”
The billionaire Tesla owner issued a response following the acquisition, saying:
Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.
