Talk show host Sharon Osbourne wasn’t too far into her tenure alongside Piers Morgan on Talk TV when she had to leave abruptly. The 69-year-old star broke down crying Thursday while explaining she had to fly back to the United States to be with her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, as he battled COVID-19 for the first time.
“I spoke to him and he’s OK. I am very worried about Ozzy right now,” Sharon said. The host had relocated to the United Kingdom after being fired from “The Talk” for alleged racist statements. Morgan was also canceled for controversial statements, which is how the pair wound up trying something new together, The Daily Mail reported.
“Ozzy was only diagnosed in the middle of the night our time,” she continued. “I spoke to him and he’s OK. I am very worried about Ozzy right now. We’ve gone two years without him catching COVID and it’s just Ozzy’s luck it would be now.”
Sharon went on to promise she’d be coming back to Talk TV once Ozzy was feeling better.
“I can’t believe my luck. I’m missing the show and I’ve only been there three days. I can’t believe it. Three days and I’m missing the show but I will be back. I know I will,” she said.
“You’re going to see me back on air in a week because I know we’re going to get my husband back on his feet and we’re going to get a negative test by next week.”
She responded to a question about what she’d do first by explaining her approach to comforting her husband of almost 40 years. She plans to, “’Hold him and kiss him, but with about three masks on I think. My family’s my life.”
Besides the recent COVID-19 diagnosis, the 73-year-old Black Sabbath singer has been battling health issues for years. He admitted to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020.
“It’s not a death sentence but it affects certain nerves in your body. You have a good day, a good day, then a really bad day,” Sharon said of the diagnosis at the time, according to BBC.
Ozzy said the diagnosis was “terribly challenging” for his family and that he was telling the public because he was bad at lying about it. Rumors were already circulating after the heavy metal rocker fell during a New Year’s Eve show in 2018.
“I’m no good with secrets,” he said at the time. “I cannot walk around with it any more ’cause it’s like I’m running out of excuses, you know?”
Ozzy went on to thank his fans for their continued support. “They’re my air, you know. I feel better. I’ve owned up to the fact that I have … a case of Parkinson’s. And I just hope they hang on and they’re there for me because I need them.”
