The media was reminded Tuesday evening that not all leftists are pro-abortion rights as a group of pro-life progressive activists rallied outside of the United States Supreme Court, offering their own views on the topic.
On Monday, after Politico cited a majority opinion draft that indicated the U.S. Supreme Court was prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade, supporters, and opponents of that potential decision began gathering outside the High Court. Those protests continued Tuesday evening as members of the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) made their voices loud and clear in opposition to their pro-abortion rights counterparts.
Kristin Monahan, the executive coordinator of PAAU, told the crowd that “abortion is by far the most patriarchal oppressive concept ever created towards women or children, or people with uteruses, and we’re all oppressed under its fascist regime.”
“We all deserve better. So many women want to die because of their abortions because they grieve their dead children,” she added. “And they were told their children were just clumps of cells, and then they read an embryology textbook and they realize how much they were lied to, and then they grieve their dead children and have PTSD meltdowns because no one told them their children were their children.”
“We all deserve better than abortion,” Monahan declared. “This is why I’m here today, not only for their children but also for their mothers. Abortion is fascism, abortion is patriarchal oppression, abortion harms all!”
Other activists decried “abortion extremism,” such as D.C.’s allowance of abortion at any moment of pregnancy until nine months of birth.
The Daily Wire also reported that PAAU appeared to be the only pro-life group outside the Supreme Court on Monday evening. A reporter for The Daily Wire witnessed certain pro-abortion factions in the crowd displaying extreme hostility toward the pro-life activists.
“The crowd seemed to be almost entirely made up of pro-abortion protesters, and the only pro-life group that I encountered was the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU),” The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan wrote of her experience. “I bumped into them as I briefly left the crowd to grab a sandwich, and they urged me to follow them, promising me that they were going to make a statement.”
Later on, Olohan found the group proclaiming “abortion is murder” into megaphones while being surrounded by pro-abortion rights protesters screaming curse words at them.
“I pushed my way through the crowd until I could see and film what was going on. One girl dressed in denim, sporting both a mask and sunglasses, flung water at the PAAU members,” Olohan claimed. “It splashed a man next to me, who looked annoyed and surprised.”
Olohan also witnessed pro-abortion activists screaming “F*** you, f*** you!” at PAAU members.
“Their eyes were wild with rage, and for a moment I wondered if they would assault the PAAU members,” Olohan wrote. “It seemed surreal to see these very typical-looking Washington, D.C., men behaving in such a manner in broad daylight.” Her full report can be read here.
On Tuesday, Chief Justice John Roberts slammed the leak of the draft opinion while suggesting it was an inside job. However, Roberts also emphasized that this was just a draft, not necessarily the final ruling.
“Yesterday, a news organization published a copy of a draft opinion in a pending case. Justices circulate draft opinions internally as a routine and essential part of the Court’s confidential deliberative work,” Robert’s release said. “Although the document described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final portion of any member on the issue in the case.”
Democratic officials have already begun preparing to attempt to codify federal legalization of abortion in anticipation that Roe v. Wade will be struck down in June, as Politico reported.
