We might all be keeping up with the Sussexes soon, according to Page Six.
The publication reported that Netflix is developing a reality series that would document Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s personal lives with an “at-home with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex-style” docuseries.
Page Six noted that Hollywood insiders are very excited about the new project, which Netflix execs would supposedly like to coordinate with the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir at the end of this year. Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s team would aim to have the series air in 2023.
“The timing is still being discussed, things are up in the air,” one producer told the outlet.
Harry and Meghan had signed a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix in 2020 but so far, fans were left disappointed in terms of new projects.
Camera crews were recently seen following the couple on their trip to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games in April. Prince Harry founded the event for wounded and injured servicemen and women in 2014. The Netflix documentary “Heart of Invictus” will take a deeper dive into this endeavor.
However, the new docuseries is rumored to be way more personal than that. Page Six said that cameras were allowed inside the couple’s mansion in Montecito, California, and also followed Harry and Meghan on a trip to New York City last fall.
“I think it’s fair to say that Netflix is getting its pound of flesh,” a Hollywood insider told the outlet.
No specific details beyond those are known about what’s in the series. But if it’s safe to assume that the Sussexes will be more open than the rest of the royal family, who are notoriously private. They already shared more than other royals while discussing their feelings with Oprah during a bombshell interview in March 2021.
At least one Sussex-related project with Netflix was already canceled, as The Daily Wire previously reported. The animated series “Pearl” was supposedly going to be partially based on Meghan’s life.
The couple’s media company Archewell Productions first announced “Pearl” in August 2021.
The press release said, “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”
Netflix announced in early May that they were canceling the series.
