Multiple co-hosts on “The View” criticized Catholic Church teaching as they lectured San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone for banning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion over her abortion stances.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg weighed in on the ban Monday, saying that the “abortion rights battle is starting to blur the lines between church and state.”

“The archbishop of San Francisco is calling for speaker Nancy Pelosi to be denied receiving communion because of her pro-choice stance,” she said. “He’s one of the priests who also called for President Biden to be denied the sacrament.”

“This is not your job, dude,” Goldberg said, addressing Archbishop  Cordileone. “That is not up to you to make that decision. What is the saying? It’s kind of amazing. What is the point of communion? It’s for sinners. It’s the reward of saints but the bread of sinners.”

“How dare you?” she asked.

The Archbishop of San Francisco informed Pelosi on Friday that she is not to receive holy communion at mass over her repeated support for abortion. The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is a “crime against human life.”

Pelosi has not responded to multiple requests for comment from The Daily Wire.

“In light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco … I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance,” Cordileone said.

Cordileone’s announcement emphasized that Pope Francis “has likewise been quite clear and emphatic in teaching on the dignity of human life in the womb,” and noted that Pelosi and Cordileone have discussed the matter in the past.

Co-host Joy Behar brought up Pope Francis during the Monday segment, noting that the pope is also pro-life. But Behar accused the Catholic Church of hypocrisy for failing to condemn politicians who support the death penalty.

Co-host Sara Haines claimed that it is possible to be “personally pro-life and to legislate pro-choice,” saying that she learned in school that at the end of their life, a person will have to face God and account for the individual decisions they made.

“It’s your decisions and whatever you believe will be on account, it will not be crossing into everyone else’s lane,” she said, adding, “The Catholic Church has some stuff to do on themselves … they will fight for this cause and yet they will allow people that have been abused by the leaders in their communities, they will shove those stories aside and continue to protect their own in the name of the PR of the church.”

“Shame on the church,” Haines said, claiming that “communion is about communing the community of the church.”

The entire panel agreed that there are some “great priests” who are unlike Cordileone and adhere to the co-hosts’ preferred version of Catholicism.

Ana Navarro, who noted that most of the panel had been raised Catholic, criticized the Catholic Church for its pro-life stances and views on marriage and sexuality.

“If you want to protect children, archbishop, instead of sheltering pedophilia, pedophile priests,  instead of moving them to other churches without telling the community…you should be protecting the children who go get Catholic education in your churches,” she said.

Sonny Hostin described herself as a “devout Catholic,” saying she has learned from her View co-hosts that she must not politicize her religion.

“If you are truly a pro-life Catholic, then you have to support gun-reform,” she claimed. “You have to be consistent. And the church just is not consistent.”
