Packers QB Aaron Rodgers recently shared that during the 2020 offseason, he tried the hallucinogenic drink ayahuasca, and the NFL has since weighed in on whether the star violated the league’s drug policy.

The Green Bay star made the comments during his appearance on “The Aubrey Marcus Podcast” last week, saying that he went on an ayahuasca retreat to Peru in 2020, ESPN reported. Ayahuasca is defined as a “psychoactive brew used both socially and as a ceremonial spiritual medicine” in South America.

In a statement from the NFL, the league’s spokesperson Brian McCarthy shared that the drink “wouldn’t have triggered a positive test result on either the substance abuse or performance-enhancing substance policies collectively bargained by the NFL and its players’ association,” ESPN noted.

When pressed by the media earlier Monday about Rodgers’ comments about the hallucinogenic tea, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur admitted that he hadn’t “much thought” about the league’s possible disciplinary actions against his QB.

During the podcast, Rodgers talked about how the retreat gave him “a deep and meaningful appreciation for life,” and added, “I came back and knew I was never going to be the same.”

“I really feel like that set me on my course to [be] able to go back into my job and have a different perspective on things and to be way more free,” the professional football player added. “At work, as a leader, as a teammate, as a friend. I really feel like that experience paved the way for me to have the best season of my career.”

In February, reports surfaced that Rodgers and actress Shailene Woodley had reportedly called off their one-year engagement, but were spotted together at a wedding the following month — but that reunion apparently didn’t last long.

A source close to the actress told People magazine that the two reportedly broke up after the “Divergent” star said their rumored rekindled relationship “wasn’t making her happy.”

Before his romance with Woodley, Rodgers was with racing star Danica Patrick for two years before the couple called it quits in July 2020.
