Hollywood and political commentators took to Twitter on Wednesday to react to Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) loss Tuesday night in the state’s GOP congressional primary.
Stars and personalities like Rob Reiner, Patricia Arquette, Dan Rather and more suggested in their tweets that Cheney’s loss to the candidate backed by former President Donald Trump, Harriet Hageman, signals trouble for Republican Party and the country.
“Liz Cheney’s overwhelming loss makes it abjectly clear,” Reiner’s message read. “The Republican Party has abandoned American Democracy in fealty to a Sociopathic Criminal.”

“The fact that Liz Cheney got 35 percent of the vote should scare the [crap] out of Republicans who think Trump would have a chance in 2024,” Arquette tweeted to her millions of followers.
The fact that Liz Cheney got 35 percent of the vote should scare the 💩 out of Republicans who think Trump would have a chance in 2024. He lost pop vote in 2016, lost general in 2020 and her numbers show he has eroded more of Republican base. He can’t win.

“He [Trump] lost pop vote in 2016, lost general in 2020 and her numbers show he has eroded more of Republican base,” the actress added. “He can’t win.”
Disgraced former CBS News anchor Dan Rather tweeted that, “If Liz Cheney is defeated today, as expected, I would not frame it as her losing. It is a loss for Wyoming, the Republican Party, and the nation.”

And they weren’t the only ones. Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera called her loss proof “Trump rules the GOP.”
“Liz Cheney got rolled in Wyoming,” Rivera tweeted. “We knew it would be bad, it was worse. Trump rules the GOP. Worse, he’s convinced most Republicans to disbelieve the truth that he lost the election.”

Regardless of the political mugging she suffered yesterday, Cheney is a truth-telling hero.— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) August 17, 2022
“Regardless of the political mugging she suffered yesterday, Cheney is a truth-telling hero,” he added.
Liz Cheney has guts, is an original and goes against the grain and MAGA kool aid drinking group think that’s a cancer in GOP leadership.
She should be commended no matter what happens today.
If all you can be today is someone that bends the knee to MAGA – this party is a waste

On Tuesday, Meghan McCain said that Cheney “should be commended no matter what happens today.”
Actor Alec Baldwin went so far as to label Cheney the “American Navalny,” referencing jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, calling her a “hero” in a video he shared on Instagram before the loss was officially declared.
“Who is the American Navalny,” Baldwin asked, before answering his own question. “Liz Cheney reminds me of Navalny.” He also said she did what she had to do because “morally” she risked “it all” career wise to “tell the truth.”
He captioned his post, “Liz Cheney is a bipartisan hero…”
However, not every star and political commentator felt the same.
Fox News’ Brit Hume made a case that Cheney is not clearly understanding her loss, suggesting it wasn’t all about the former president.
“I wonder if things might have turned out differently for Liz Cheney if she’d used her seat on the 1/6 committee to insist on cross-examination of witnesses and a chance for the defense to present its side,” Hume tweeted to his million plus followers.
I wonder if things might have turned out differently for Liz Cheney if she'd used her seat on the 1/6 committee to insist on cross-examination of witnesses and a chance for the defense to present its side. Instead she led the charge for an utterly one-sided presentation.

Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro tweeted that the representative “fundamentally misunderstands” why people are “so passionately angry at her inside the GOP base.”
“She said last night that winning ‘would’ve required that I go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election. It would’ve required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic,’” Shapiro wrote. “That’s not true.”
“Winning simply would have required her not to act as a front person for a Democratic committee dedicated to lumping together all Republicans and conservatives with January 6 rioters, and suggesting that anyone who would consider voting Trump 2024 is an incipient fascist,” he added.
“Did Glenn Youngkin go along with the idea that Trump won the 2020 election?” Shapiro continued. “Did he ‘go along with ongoing efforts’ to undermine the republic? How about Dan Crenshaw in Texas? What they didn’t do is act as enthusiastic participants in a broader Democratic and media agenda.”
Actor Kevin Sorbo told his followers that, “Honestly, [Liz Cheney] and [Beto O’Rourke]
should team up in 2024 so they can lose together and save voters the time.”

“Justified” star Nick Searcy took to Twitter and simply tweeted,”Bye, [Rep. Liz Cheney]. Hope that 36 million lasts you a while.”
