Federalist Publisher Ben Domenech blasted school closures Wednesday as schools nationwide remain closed for full in-person classroom instruction for millions of children.

According to the Return to Learn tracker by the conservative-leaning American Enterprise Institute (AEI), less than half the nation’s public schools currently feature fully in-person learning, while 4 percent of all districts remain entirely remote.

“The damage that has been done to these children is going to be the sort of thing that is the subject of research for decades to come,” Domenech said. That will be long after the political power players in the Democrat Party beholden to teachers’ unions who engineered long-term shutdown have laughed their way to the bank.

“We are seeing the degradation, the destruction of these children’s lives,” Domenech emphasized, based on established research about the effects of long-term school absences. The outcomes for American children of these endless learning disruptions mean “the difference between being able to hold down a job and being on welfare for the rest of your life.”

The United States, Domenech noted, has been an outlier in the western world to pursue school closings. American politicians “rejected the science [and] beholden to these public teachers unions, we made decisions that had nothing to do with the actual protection of these students.”
