A new CIA recruitment video is being slammed on social media for being too “woke.”
The video, little more than 2 minutes long, focuses on a 36-year-old Latina CIA officer named Mija.
“My employment was not, and is not, the result of a fluke or slip through the cracks,” Mija says in the video. “I earned my way in, and I earned my way up the ranks of this organization.”
Text accompanying the video when it was posted read:
“I am unapologetically me. I want you to be unapologetically you, whoever you are. Whether you work at #CIA, or anywhere else in the world. Command your space. Mija, you are worth it.”
Mija says she suffered from “imposter syndrome” but she refuses to “internalize misguided patriarchal ideas of what a woman can or should be.”
The agency posted the video on Twitter on Wednesday, Newsweek reported, and comments posted on social media have picked up the past several days.
Critics have not held back.

Political commentator Liz Wheeler tweeted:
“Watch this insane CIA recruitment video & tell me the CIA isn’t a woke swamp creature… capable & willing to weaponize their power to target their political opponents: conservatives.”
Jeet Heer, columnist at The Nation, tweeted:
“If putatively “woke” language can so easily be co-opted by the CIA, is it really emancipatory? Either time to get new language or pay less attention to language.”
Director and producer Robby Starbuck tweeted:
“This is a real video released by the CIA. Every institution is being destroyed by the woke left. If we don’t stop this, [the U.S.] will fall. I bet instead of waterboarding, they’ll unleash real torture on terrorists: Listening to ‘progressives’ talk for hours about every social issue.”
