Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., made “blatantly false” statements in the election law markup hearing Tuesday, and Dr. Anthony Fauci was “being dishonest” testifying on funding gain-of-function coronavirus research, according to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Newsmax TV.
“What Chuck Schumer said is just blatantly false,” Paul told Tuesday’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” “People are voting at higher percentages than they ever have. Interestingly, African Americans are voting are a higher percentage in places like Mississippi. This is a good thing.”
Democrats’ claims Republicans are trying to suppress access to voting with their red-state election laws, while Democrats in Congress attempt to pass their own partisan voting agenda, is not based in fact nor supported by history, Paul told host Rob Schmitt.
“In fact, the Republican Party has always stood for voting rights,” Paul said. “We were the ones that actually voted against all the Jim Crow laws. It was Democrats who voted for Jim Crow laws. It was Democrats who were beating Democrats as he crossed the bridge in Selma.
“The Republican Party’s history is good on this.”
Paul noted, despite Democrats’ false claims, new voting laws in Kentucky and Georgia “actually expand early voting.”
“We’re for more people voting, but we don’t want people to vote by mail, because we’re worried about fraud,” Paul continued. “We think that, inherently, when you send something in by mail without showing your ID that there’s more of a chance that someone can cheat.
“And, so, we don’t like the idea of somebody collecting 10,000 ballots and just say, ‘here they are; I promise you they’re legitimate ballots.’
“Early voting should be 1 person at a time, and it should be done in person.”
Dr. Fauci was also not telling America the whole truth about the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases helping fund gain-of-function research on coronavirus, Paul said after he grilling the director on that Tuesday in a congressional hearing.
“He was being dishonest,” Paul said, adding papers published by a China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology indicate gain-of-function research was “funded by NIH and funded specifically by the NIAID, which is Fauci’s group.”
“So, no, he completely dissembled on that, leading you to believe something that’s not true.”
Gain-of-function research is scientists taking an animal virus and “juicing it up,” according to Paul, a doctor of ophthalmology.
“This kind of stuff needs to be watched, and do we trust the Chinese enough?” Paul lamented. “Why the heck are we giving money to the Chinese anyway? I thought they were a rich country. Why don’t they fund their own damn research?
“It’s too much of a coincidence to look at – we have a coronavirus epidemic in a city that has a top secret militarized place where they’re supping up and juicing up the coronavirus – a little too much coincidence to believe,” Paul added.
Also, Paul concluded, the latest report the Centers for Disease Control misrepresented the infection rates of COVID-19 from outdoor interactions which shows a lack of “real science” in pandemic protocols.
“It’s largely theater, but it’s theater that’s disrupted our lives,” Paul said. “It’s made our children fearful of air, fearful of being outside. And no real science. It’s based on pseudoscience, conjecture, and some sort of busybody’s opinion of what they think you ought to do.
“But mone of it’s real science.”
