Seventy-one percent of registered voters say New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should be impeached if he concealed the number of deaths in nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released Monday, reports The Hill.
The FBI and federal prosecutors are investigating Cuomo’s coronavirus task force with a particular focus on his administration’s handling of nursing homes early in the pandemic.
Some lawmakers have called for his resignation after one of his top aides privately apologized to Democrat lawmakers for withholding the state’s nursing home death toll from COVID-19.
The poll also found:
- 71% of respondents believe Cuomo did conceal nursing home data, while 29 percent said they believe he did not.
- 31% said they have a favorable view of Cuomo, compared with 42% who said they had an unfavorable view of him.
- 24% said they had a favorable view of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, compared with 30% who said they had an unfavorable view.
“Both Gov. Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo are in real trouble and have lost their rising star status,” Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll polling director Mark Penn said.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey of 2,006 registered voters was conducted from Feb. 23-25. It is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and The Harris Poll.
