Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said Monday she remained undecided on whether to support Neera Tanden after meeting with the Office of Management and Budget nominee.
“I met with her today; we had a sit-down meeting, which was good,” Murkowski told reporters, per The Hill.
The senator added she had “some more follow-up questions” and continued to do an “assessment” before committing one way or the other regarding Tanden’s nomination.
In a Senate split evenly in party makeup, Tanden needs at least one Republican vote to be confirmed. That is because Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said he would oppose her nomination.
Tanden, former head of the Center for American Progress, came under fire from Republicans and Manchin for a long history of strong language about political opponents.
Up for re-election in 2022, moderate Murkowski has been considered the only remaining GOP senator who might vote for Tanden.
Murkowski has had discussions with the White House, and met with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., late last week. Schumer declined to say they talked about.
When asked what the White House said to try and sway her, Murkowski said, “The president nominated her.”
