Former Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan claimed he’s “glad” Vice President Kamala Harris has not visited the southern border because she would only make things “worse.”

“I’m glad she’s nowhere near the border,’ Morgan told the Daily Mail during a question-and-answer session as part of a Heritage Foundation discussion on Tuesday. “Quite frankly,” he continued, “I think if she does do what she should do as the anointed border czar, she’s just going to make the crisis even worse.

“This is a former Senator Harris who during a congressional testimony referred to ICE as the KKK, she basically called ICE agents racist. She’s gone further to say that ICE should be dismantled and start from scratch.”

President Joe Biden has put Harris in charge of the U.S. response to the influx of migrants that has overwhelmed shelters at the U.S. southern border.

Biden made the announcement on March 24 at a meeting with two officials responsible for dealing with a growing number of migrant children: Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

The move comes as both Democrats and Republicans in Congress warn of a burgeoning humanitarian crisis, Bloomberg News noted Republicans have been highly critical of Biden putting Harris in charge.

The Heritage Foundation discussion also included Former Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and ex-Acting DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli.

Cuccinelli told the Daily Mail that no one in the administration wants to take ownership of the crisis at the southern border.

“This is a political hot potato within the administration,” Cuccinelli said.

“None of them want it,” he added. “That’s why the president tossed it to the vice president, that’s why he hasn’t visited the border even though he has caused the problem. That’s why she won’t touch it, she won’t talk about it, she won’t go to the border, she won’t go anywhere near it.”

Cuccinelli said administration officials are “all more afraid of the radical left base than they are committed to solving the problem.”

“By a longshot – it’s not even close,” he maintained,

And Wolf said the White House needs to “clear up who’s in charge.

“Who should they be listening to, who should they be taking direction from?” he said. They don’t know – and if they don’t know that is a problem.”

Meanwhile, Biden praised Harris in a tweet on Monday.

He wrote: “When I served as Vice President, I asked to be the last person with the President before big decisions were made — and @VP is providing the same counsel to me,” Biden wrote. “She’s the last voice in the room and never fails to speak the truth as we work to build our nation back better.”
