Former U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp smeared Gina Carano as a “Nazi” who “does hang with white supremacists” on national television on Monday, an accusation that the ex-Lucasfilm actress quickly condemned.

“Who was the woman in ‘The Mandalorian’? What did she do? She liked something?” Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” asked.

“She’s a Nazi,” the North Dakota Democrat said without missing a beat.

Maher pushed back on the accusation made without evidence, but Heitkamp doubled down, accusing Carano of being “involved with white supremacists” and speculating whether her comments could be “subject to defamation.”

“OK, everyone’s a Nazi now,” Maher concluded sarcastically, noting that “it depends on what your definition of white supremacy is” and that “goalposts” for defining certain words have “changed a lot.”

“Used to be a guy in a Klan hood,” Maher added.

Heitkamp concluded her rant against Carano with a broad jab at Republicans for focusing on cancel culture and other issues such as Dr. Seuss.

“They’re reading ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ proving that some of these senators can actually read,” she said.

Carano quickly responded to Heitkamp’s allegations, using her Twitter account to denounce another example of “the dehumanizing phase of cancel culture.”

“Here we have more of the dehumanizing phase of cancel culture. Repeat lies over and over until the population takes them as ‘truth’. False, disturbing & disgusting language coming from a former US Senator,” Carano wrote. “You knew as soon as you said it you were liable.”

The former “Mandalorian” star is all-too-familiar with the ins and outs of cancel culture after Lucasfilm fired her in February for sharing a post on social media warning against hating people for having different political views. The post sparked outrage, prompting a Twitter mob to lobby for the actress to be fired for being “antisemitic” and “racist.” According to reporting by the Hollywood Reporter, people at Lucasfilm were “looking for a reason to fire her for two months” and used the newest controversy to justify it.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a representative from the company stated. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
