Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) questioned why he would support Democrats when they don’t support school choice. In an interview on Friday, the Florida lawmaker slammed the media for pushing the idea that all black people should be Democrats.

Donalds went on to say the left also supports inflation and open borders, which hurts the lower class. The comments come on the heels of a CNN interview discussing the Congressional Black Caucus rejecting his membership over his political beliefs, despite the CBC being officially non-partisan.

“I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I come from a single parent household. I know what it is to actually have to grow up coming out of the inner city in today’s America because I’ve done it,” he expressed. “I think those perspectives are helpful. Whether the CBC wants to take advantage of that is up to them.”

The CBC is currently dominated by the Democratic party, as there are not any Republicans who belong to the group. Donalds reported his office has been completely disregarded by the CBC after multiple inquiries for him to become a member have been ignored.

The freshman congressman went on to say he believes all Americans should be free to believe what they want regardless of constraints the media may put on them because of race.
