Former Texas state GOP Chairman Allen West has launched his bid for governor of the Lone Star State. During a church service on Sunday, West presented a video announcing his 2022 bid.
West went on to argue he could no longer sit on the sidelines and watch what has been happening in the U.S. The former GOP chairman had been hinting at his run for governor, with another candidate being former Texas Sen. Don Huffines (R).
Thank you all so very much for your overwhelming support! For those asking how you can financially support the campaign — and I am humbled by the requests — please see this page (there is a note at the bottom for those who would prefer to mail a check): https://t.co/2cgOFvKscC pic.twitter.com/riHCJagI3w

West is the second Republican to launch a primary challenge against incumbent Gregg Abbott (R-Texas), who is seeking a third term in the governor mansion with endorsement from President Trump. West has been known to repeatedly scrutinize Abbott over Texas’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This announcement comes less than a month after West stepped down as state GOP chair back in June, which occurred less than a year after being elected to the role.
