Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) has called out Joe Biden for his failures in adequately responding to cyberattacks. During an interview on Monday, Speier said the U.S. has been at a disadvantage in regards to cybersecurity by arguing being in an open country delays reaction time.

The Democrat urged Joe Biden to respond to cyberattacks in a more adequate manner. She said although she believed Biden has been waiting for an “appropriate moment” to take action, she urged for him strengthen his stance against Russia on future attacks.

“So, in this case, I think we need to move more swiftly,” she expressed. “I hope the president takes the action that’s necessary to shut this down. He needs to send a very clear and strong message to Putin.”

The California lawmaker went on to suggest REvil, the Russian ransomware group behind the recent Kaseya cyberattacks, had the green-light from Putin to execute the attacks. She stated, “nothing happens in Russia without the blessings of Vladimir Putin.”

This comes weeks after Biden gave Putin a list of 16 critical infrastructure entities that were off limits from future attacks. That move prompted concerns from U.S. officials and Americans alike regarding why Biden would release that vital information to Putin.
