A Chicago police officer was fatally shot and another wounded in a confrontation during a traffic stop. According to reports on Saturday, the two officers attempted to pull over a vehicle on the city’s south side when the occupants inside the car opened fire towards the officers.
Police announced a 29-year-old female officer, who has not been identified, died from her injuries. The other office has been in critical condition.
“During that traffic stop, there were three occupants of the vehicle, two male and one female. During that traffic stop, the officers were fired upon and they returned fire,” explained First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter of Chicago Police Department. “During that exchange of gun fire, two officers were struck. One offender was struck. We have two offenders in custody and a weapon recovered on the scene.”

Officers are continuing to search for the third suspect as the investigation into the shooting continues.
