Straight white men are being silenced because of “woke” culture, popular podcast host Joe Rogan said on one of his recent episodes, the New York Post reported.
“You can never be woke enough, that’s the problem,” he said on a an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” adding that, “it keeps going. It keeps going further and further and further down the line, and if you get to the point where you capitulate, where you agree to all these demands, it’ll eventually get to — straight white men are not allowed to talk. Because it’s your privilege to express yourself when other people of color have been silenced throughout history.”
Rogan added that, “it will be, you’re not allowed to go outside,” explaining that “there’s a lot of people that are taking advantage of this weirdness in our culture, and then that becomes their thing. Their thing is calling people out for their privilege, calling people out for their position.”
Rogan has more than 11 million listeners for his podcast, which was bought by Spotify for $100 million last year, according to the Post.
Rogan’s comments became a trending topic on Twitter.
One user’s tweet appeared to sum up the criticism of his comments by saying, “Joe Rogan made his comments about straight white men not being able to talk due to ‘woke culture’ on his podcast which was acquired by Spotify in a $100m deal, that has 11 million listeners per episode and lets him talk about literally anything.”
Rogan recently was criticized by many people after he claimed that healthy young adults do not need to get vaccinated, which goes against the advice of public health officials, NBC News reported.
White House communications director Kate Bedingfield responded to his remarks by telling CNN, “I guess my first question would be, did Joe Rogan become a medical doctor while we weren’t looking?” adding that, “I’m not sure that taking scientific and medical advice from Joe Rogan is perhaps the most productive way for people to get their information.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, explained to NBC’s “Today” show the importance of healthy youth also getting vaccinated, saying “it is likely that you — even if you have no symptoms — that you may inadvertently and innocently then infect someone else, who might infect someone who really could have a problem with a severe outcome.”
Rogan later clarified in an episode of April 29 podcast that he was “not an anti-vax person.”
Last July, Rogan announced on “The Joe Rogan Experience” that he would be leaving Los Angeles and headed to Texas, explaining he wanted to live “somewhere where you have a little bit more freedom,” particularly due to California’s significantly more stringent coronavirus restrictions.
