Sales of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “leadership lessons” pandemic memoir have plummeted in recent weeks as the embattled lawmaker faces investigations over the nursing home scandal and claims he sexually harassed three women.
Only 300 copies of the book, “America’s Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic” sold in February after reports surfaced his administration lied about the amount of New Yorkers who died in nursing homes from the virus, reports Bloomberg News, quoting market researcher NPD Group.
The book was released in mid-October and has sold more than 45,800 units since that time. In it, Cuomo writes about how his state became the U.S. epicenter of the pandemic and recounts the daily briefings that eventually earned him an Emmy Award.
Kristen McLean, an NPD analyst, told Bloomberg that a sharp drop-off is common within about 8 weeks after a book about politics is released, but Cuomo’s book saw a “precipitous drop” five weeks ago, from a few thousand copies a week to less than 200.
“Of course we cannot confirm why it’s dropped,” she said. “We will leave that question to others.”
