The Texas Senate passed legislation whereby transgender athletes may only compete in categories corresponding to their gender at birth, meaning their ‘biological sex.’

Remaining intact is Texas policy that males cannot compete in female sports categories, while the opposite is permitted, but only if there is no comparable female sport.

“This is about protecting female athletes and recognizing their accomplishments within their biological peer group,” said State Sen. Charles Perry, author of the bill, reported Breitbart.

Recently the NCAA’s ‘more inclusive policy’ decision currently authorizes transgender people to play in their choice of categories and states defying that policy risk having in-state tournaments pulled, reports NBC News.

“When determining where championships are held, NCAA policy directs that only locations where hosts can commit to providing an environment that is safe, healthy, and free of discrimination should be selected. We will continue to closely monitor these situations to determine whether NCAA championships can be conducted in ways that are welcoming and respectful of all participants,” said the NCAA.

Along with Texas, states such as Mississippi, Tenessee, Arkansas, Idaho and others are likewise looking to impose, or have already imposed, the same restrictions on transgender athletes.
