Unrest sparked between police and protesters in Portland on Monday evening after a group of demonstrators took to the streets to protest the police killing of a Black man in Minnesota.
Video uploaded to social media showed riot police running after protesters and rubbish bins set alight on the side of the road.
Local media said at least 200 protesters had gathered in Southeast Portland in front of the building, which houses offices for multiple law enforcement agencies.
The protest comes after a fatal police shooting of Black motorist in Minnesota.
A suburban Minneapolis police officer apparently drew her gun by mistake, instead of her Taser, when she shot a young Black man to death during a traffic stop, a police chief said on Monday, hours before the second night of unrest sparked by the killing.
The shooting roiled a region already on edge, as last year’s killing of George Floyd, a Black man who died with his neck pinned to a Minneapolis street under a white policeman’s knee, was being recounted in graphic detail in the trial of former officer Derek Chauvin, charged with his murder.
