A South Korean TV drama production company is set to launch a major series that will focus on crypto and blockchain-related matters – with a bumper budget of over USD 2.7m per episode.

Per Financial News, major A-list celebrity actors from South Korea, China, and the United States are already in talks to star in the series, tentatively named “Pumping Time,” which might run for a whopping 10 seasons. Each season will feature 20 episodes, each 30 minutes long .

The production company, Gemstone Film, is set to collaborate with production firms in the United States and China, and has received financial backing from K-Play Content.

The producers have already recruited one of South Korea’s leading drama writers, Choi Wan-kyu, as a showrunner. Choi has scored enormous success with the thriller “Iris” in 2009, as well as the 2006 historical drama “Jumong.”

The producers also claimed they would be creating special trailers to help viewers learn more about crypto and blockchain, the themes that will be explored in the drama.

Although few story details have been revealed so far, production officials have commented that central bank digital currency (CBDC) projects and crypto fraud will be among the subject matter featured.

Another K-drama focusing on crypto and featuring K-pop stars Kwon Hyun-bin (of the group JBJ) and ex-Rainbow member Cho Hyun-young is also in production, and will likely stream online early next year.

Production on “Pumping Time” should begin next month.
