Derek Jeter is finally addressing a notorious rumor about him handing out gift baskets to women he slept with.

The story about the New York Yankees star originated with a 2011 New York Post article. “Derek has girls stay with him at his apartment in New York, and then he gets them a car to take them home the next day. Waiting in his car is a gift basket containing signed Jeter memorabilia, usually a signed baseball,” a source told the outlet at the time.

Per US Weekly, Jeter denied the rumor during a segment for “The Captain,” a new ESPN Films documentary which premieres July 18.

“I read the article,” Jeter said in the series. “You know, you see it, and then it’s like, ‘How the f*** did people come up with this?’ You know, basically, that’s it. And who would believe this sh**? And you believed it!”

He continued, “It’s a story that became larger than life. People keep regurgitating this story that never happened. Never happened.”

The Major League star said at least one fan even used it as inspiration for his own sexual exploits.

“I remember being at a Starbucks one time and there’s some random guy behind me and he says, ‘Hey, I just want to let you know that I’m giving out gift baskets because you did,’” Jeter said during the interview with “The Captain.”

“And I turned around and said, ‘You’re a f***in’ idiot!’ And the look on his face. … Like, did he think I was gonna say, ‘Yeah, good job, man!’”

Jeter recently made headlines for finally joining Twitter in a hilarious way. The Yankees player joined by sharing a tweet that said, “Derek Jeter has no excuse not to have a Twitter account by now” back from December 9, 2014.

“Looks like I’ve officially run out of excuses,” Jeter shared while describing himself as a “sleep-deprived father to three amazing girls,” per The Daily Wire.

Jeter continued his first day on Twitter by teasing Mark Wahlberg, a fan of the Boston Red Sox.

“Hey @markwahlberg, let me know if you need an extra in the next movie,” Jeter tweeted at the Hollywood actor in jest.

Wahlberg wrote that he wasn’t sure Jeter could pull off a Boston accent.

Finally, Jeter shared a clip of himself on the field giving props to a teammate in the dugout.

“Made it through my first day on Twitter,” Jeter shared at the time.
