Joy Behar slammed Elon Musk after the Tesla owner told his employees that “remote work is no longer acceptable,” before saying that “people need to go back to work” because that’s how you “meet people.”
During “The View” on Friday, the co-hosts discussed whether or not Musk was right when, as Whoopi Goldberg put it, he ordered “his employees to get back to work in person and spend at least 40 hours in the office.” Goldberg then pointed out that Musk “did become the richest person in the world while his employees were working from home,” as she questioned whether he really needed them all “back in the office.”
Sarah Haines said “the pandemic was an awful time, but it did bring to the front kind of how antiquated our business model is on — and it has been for a long time,” as she agreed that the idea of a “9 to 5 workday” was outdated.
“Now we have modern families and they look a lot different and we don’t live with a government that’s giving any paid leave, not giving anything,” Haines said. “A lot of places have zero leave for like maternity leave, sick leave, you name it. There isn’t a lot of support.”

And Haines said she was surprised that Musk, “who is a pioneer in a lot of technology and innovation … would go so far backwards.”
Behar interjected and said the billionaire CEO was a “a self-important bore.”
“Let him go into space,” Behar stated. “I test drove a Tesla one time, I was scared of the car. I’m scared of that car. It goes ba-boom and it’s got a computer and I got [a] panic attack in that car, number one. Number two, people need to go back to work because where else are you going to meet somebody?”
“You know what I mean?” she added. “Not everybody can go on Tinder and whatever else people are doing. This is where you meet people.”
Haines said, “Sunny’s going to disagree with you,” and Behar said that her cohost Sunny Hostin was “married” so “she doesn’t care.”
“Office romances, career suicide,” Hostin replied. “Because what happens Joy when you break up? You got to look at the person’s face.”
“So what,” Behar responded. “Look at all the fun you had before that. Also, I’m not saying you should sleep with your boss. That’s really a deal breaker. But when you have two adults who are on the same level and having a good time with each other. Go for it.”
Hostin repeated that people some times break up and then revealed why she was against office romance. “It didn’t work out for me,” said, adding that she got “burnt.”
