Joy Behar said Monday that Will Smith got longer than former President Donald Trump “will ever get” for “many crimes” after the actor was banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years.
During a panel discussion on “The View” Monday, the co-host discussed whether or not they thought the punishment of a 10-year ban fit the actions of Smith, who walked on stage and slapped Rock at the annual awards show after the comedian cracked a joke about his wife’s shaved head.
“He’s [Smith’s] banned from the Oscars for ten years,” Behar explained. “So, what. Who wants to go to that anyway. So, does the punishment fit the crime? Some people are saying he should give the Oscar back.”
Sarah Haines disagreed with giving the award back and said what the actor did “had nothing to do with his art or his performance.”
“It’s longer than Donald Trump will ever get, I’ll tell ya right now,” Behar interjected. “For many crimes.” The co-host did not explain further what she meant.
Haines said the punishment felt like “overkill,” but guest host Alyssa Farah Griffin — who worked in the Trump administration — said she thought it “was appropriate.”

Sunny Hostin said she didn’t think the Oscar should be taken from Smith and Behar interjected with the fact that disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein still has his.
Hostin said the problem she was having with the coverage has been the discussions “blaming Jada Pinkett Smith for those actions.”
Behar pointed out that it was the actress who first looked “disapproving” of what “Chris Rock said,” noting her eye roll. Ana Navarro jumped in and said it was more than that noting how “very public” the Smiths have been over time about their marriage and struggles in their relationship.
“When you air out your dirty laundry, your dirty laundry is going to be out there forever,” Navarro explained. “And when things like this happen, people come out with the dirty laundry and it puts things into context.”
Navarro explained when “you see a lot of those videos now given what’s happened you know it’s made me feel…I don’t know how a certain way.” Videos have emerged of Jada filming Will saying she “never” wanted to be married.
She also said, “when you give me Roman Polanski’s Oscar then we can start talking about” talking about Smith’s.
Hostin came back around later to Jada and said she believes “black women, we are the least protected people on the planet” crediting Malcolm X with the original statement which she said she agreed with.
“And people are saying well he protected his wife,” Hostin added. “I would’ve preferred to see the protection that we saw when Cory Booker protected Judge Jackson. I would prefer to see her protect her in that way.”
Behar said she would’ve preferred Jada herself to walk up on stage and have smacked Rock herself. She quickly noted she was just joking and that her last comment was a joke after getting push-back from the panel.
