“Law and Order” star Danielle Mon Truitt said she used to like taking the subway in New York but explained she’s not taking it anymore because she’s not going to put herself in “harm’s way.”
“I think my resting b*tch face and the fact that I walk so fast deters people from even thinking that they can mug me or mess with me or half way even talk to me,” the 41-year-old actress shared, reported Page Six in a recent piece.
“That keeps me safe in New York and I don’t take the subway,” she dded. “I actually liked taking the subway years ago but I don’t take the subway now. I try to choose things that will keep me out of harm’s way as much as possible.”
The California native star moved to New York when she landed the role of Sergeant Ayanna Bell on “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which premiered in 2021, the outlet noted. She shared how “years ago” she would travel to New York to visit friends and ride the subway at 3am.
“It was kind of cool, especially being from California, because we don’t have that option out there,” the actress said. “Just to walk around and hop on a train and go wherever you want to go.”
“So, I loved it but now because of COVID and all the stuff that’s going on, I’m just taking Ubers,” she added. “Your head has to be in a swivel while riding the train.”
The “Rebel” star’s comments come following a series of horrific violent crimes that has happened in subway stations and on trains.
As previously reported by the Daily Wire, New York Mayor Eric Adams even admitted to not feeling “safe” on the subway system.
Even New York Mayor Eric Adams admitted he did not feel safe on the city’s subways, as The Daily Wire reported. “On day one, I took the subway system, I felt unsafe. I saw homeless everywhere. People were yelling on the trains. There was a feeling of disorder. So as we deal with the crime problem, we also have to deal with the fact people feel unsafe,” Adams said. The mayor’s comments came just a day after he was accused of dismissing concerns about subway safety as a “perception of fear” in the wake of Go’s death.
As reported by the Daily Wire, the New York Police Department (NYPD) statistics show that serious crimes have increased, with transit crimes rising more than 65%.
“Major Big Apple crimes jumped by more than a third in the first two weeks of this year compared to the same period in 2021 — with transit crimes alone soaring 65.5 percent,” the Post reported. “While the figures remain a small sample size, the upward trend provides an early challenge for Adams as he tries to reassure jittery straphangers that cops have everything in hand underground after several terrifying recent rail attacks, particularly Saturday’s horrific random fatal subway push in Times Square.”
“The report said there were 96 incidents in the transit system compared to 58 last year, led by an increase in robberies and grand larcenies, but the overall number was lower than it was before the pandemic in 2019,” The Daily Wire added.
