“It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers!” he posted on Instagram on June 6. “Joy and face painting all around.”
Prince Harry and Meghan hosted a small birthday party attended by close friends and family at Frogmore Cottage in England, according to a spokesperson. The rep went on to say the couple hosted a “casual, intimate backyard picnic” for their daughter, People reported.
Family friend Misan Harriman took the “candid, spontaneous photograph that the Duke and Duchess are pleased to share today,” the spokesperson continued.
Baker Claire Ptak from East London’s Violet Bakery made the birthday cake for Lilibet. Ptak was the same baker who Meghan and Harry hired to create their wedding cake in 2018.
The couple was in town for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebration. However, they got booed at the one event they attended during the four-day long tribute to the longest-reigning monarch in British history, The Daily Wire previously reported. Harry and Meghan did not bring either of their children to the Jubilee.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines in 2020 for leaving their positions as senior working royals and retreating to raise their family “privately.” Critics have pointed out that since then, Harry and Meghan keep thrusting themselves into the spotlight, notably with a bombshell tell-all Oprah interview and with a Netflix partnership, to name a few.
There is also a rumor of a docuseries that would highlight the Sussex’s personal lives raising their two kids in Montecito, California.
Sources say Queen Elizabeth did meet her grandchild, Lilibet, who was named after her while the family was in town. But an insider told The Daily Beast that the monarch’s team refused Harry and Meghan’s request to snap a photo of their meeting.
“Harry and Meghan wanted their photographer to capture the moment Lilibet met the queen,” the source allegedly said. “But they were told no chance. It was a private family meeting.”
