Macklemore shared with fans his path to sobriety once again after suffering a relapse during the COVID pandemic in his ongoing recovery from alcohol and drug abuse.

The 39-year-old rapper, born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, posted a message on TikTok recently sharing with fans that he’s been sober for almost two years after relapsing during the summer of 2020.

“I relapsed during the first summer of COVID,” the “Thrift Shop” rapper wrote in his post. “Today I have 694 days clean.”

“Love you guys,” he added before encouraging others to share their own stories of sobriety in the comments section.

In another recent lengthy Instagram post, the “Glorious” hitmaker told his followers that he was grateful for the love and appreciation from his fans as he announced the release of new music.

In January, Macklemore spoke to People magazine about his road to recovery after suffering a relapse during the pandemic.

“It was really painful for myself and for the people who loved me. I stopped doing the work,” Macklemore shared at the time. “When I have to be still and exist within my own head, that’s where my disease lives… [But] I’m like, ‘You know what? I don’t need to pretend like I’m some perfect dude in recovery.’ I am not at all, and there’s no shame.”

In 2021, the performer told Dax Shepard on his “Armchair Expert” podcast that when everything went virtual, including his 12-step meetings that first summer, it was hard to stay focused on sobriety, Page Six noted.

“It was within two months of my COVID relapse, and the disease of addiction is crazy,” the rapper said. “I’ve spent most of the last 11 years in recovery, and it’s made me who I am.”

“I’ve compromised my life and other people around me, I’ve done things that I’m not proud of, but I do have that foundational level of 10 years of recovery, and I’m f***ing proud of that,” he added.

In 2008, Macklemore first sought help for his addiction to drugs and alcohol, Page Six noted. Since then, he’s been very open with fans about his struggle and relapsing in 2011 and again in 2014, before the most recent setback.
