Fox Business host Dagen McDowell let Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have it over his government’s emergency-order-fueled crackdown on the truckers protesting his vaccine mandate.
During a panel discussion on Friday’s broadcast of “Outnumbered” on Fox News, McDowell referred to Trudeau as a “wanna-be emperor” and “a haircut with an ego,” saying that was happening in Canada should serve as a stark reminder that the freedoms and liberties Americans often took for granted needed to be preserved.
Co-host Emily Compagno began the segment with an update on the situation, noting that Canadian officials had arrested leaders of the Freedom Convoy and the government had begun to target and freeze financial accounts owned by people who had been linked to the massive protests.
“Turning into a full-scale crackdown in Canada, this is a live picture in Ottawa of protesters facing off with police,” she said. “They are moving in to make more arrests today, just as banks began to freeze the accounts of those linked to demonstrations on orders from Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.”
She then cut to a clip of an Ottawa shop owner, speaking to Fox News host Jesse Watters about how tensions were impacting everyday citizens.
“Never in my 56 years have I ever experienced a country so divided, so full of hatred toward friends and neighbors,” she told Watters, saying that people had called her a Nazi and a terrorist.
“They have a tyrant now, Justin Trudeau is a tyrant,” co-host Julie Banderas said when the clip ended. “The other thing, it is crazy, the dog thing we’re supposed to talk about later. I can’t get over the pets. They are actually threatening owners of animals, if you, government that will kill your dog for disobeying orders is basically one of the tweets we had lined up, basically states if you are unable to care for your pet, we will take your pet away at your expense for a week, and if you don’t come back and claim it, they are going basically kill your dog over this.”
“These are working-class people, how do you ever expect them to trust you again, Justin Trudeau?” Compagno asked. “Have you thought that far ahead? Does it even matter to you? I predict the answer is that relationship will not survive this and by the time it matters to the government, it will be too late.”
Comedian and “Fox Across America” radio host Jimmy Failla noted that, as a former New York City cab driver, he was predisposed to get angry at anyone who blocked traffic — but he also noted that he agreed with what the truckers were standing up against.
“This is not a conservative moment, this is a freedom moment. These are just objective observers who have seen flimsy science used to trample freedom. They are not necessarily anti-vax, they are anti-autocracy,” he said, arguing that Trudeau had “lost the empathy” for his own position by wielding the full force of government against the truckers.
McDowell rounded out the conversation, saying, “I think we all believe the United States has shared values with Canada, until this. It is reminder how important it is to preserve and protect the freedoms and rights that we have here in the United States. If even if you are against the truckers, if you don’t believe in them — to Jimmy’s point causing traffic, what have you — anyone who has read history should be very afraid when the government exercises extraordinary powers against a certain group of people because next it will be you, it will be the group that you belong to. And particularly when it’s a wanna-be emperor, a haircut with an ego, like Justin Trudeau.”
