Social media reeled with comparisons to the psychological thriller “The Talented Mr. Ripley” after actress Amber Heard took the stand again on Thursday to testify in the defamation case brought against her by her former husband, actor Johnny Depp.
A number of people noticed a striking similarity between Heard’s testimony and some comments made by actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Marge Duval about Jude Law’s character “Dickie” in the 1999 film.
Breitbart reporter Alana Mastrangelo shared video of the two side by side to show the similarities.

And while Heard did not — as some have claimed — steal the lines from the movie and pass them off as her own, she certainly presented a similar line of commentary.
Heard/Depp trial:
“When I was around Johnny I felt like the most beautiful person in the world. You know, made me feel seen, made me feel … like a million dollars,” Heard said, her voice breaking. “It felt like a dream. It felt like, um, absolute magic.”
“And then he would disappear,” she continued. “And there would be just no way to get ahold of him, no way to contact him.”
“The Talented Mr. Ripley”:
“The thing with Dickie, it’s like the sun shines on you and it’s glorious and then he forgets you and it’s very, very cold,” Marge said.
“So I’m learning,” Tom Ripley (played by Matt Damon) replied.
“When you have his attention, you feel like you’re the only person in the world, that’s why everybody loves him.”
Enough people circulated the fake quote, claiming that Heard had used the lines verbatim from the movie, that Snopes.com addressed the claim in a fact-check published on Thursday.

Snopes noted that the claim — which alleged Heard had repeated the lines from the movie word-for-word during her opening statement on Wednesday — was suspect from the beginning since Heard had not made an opening statement at all. Her attorney delivered an opening statement on her behalf prior to her giving testimony.
“The claim that Heard repeated these lines from ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ was presented on social media with no evidence. Those asserting it did not share a video of Heard making the alleged statement, nor did they link to any news articles containing this quote or a transcript from the trial that would substantiate the accusation,” the fact-check continued. “The former fact was especially suspicious, since video of this trial was publicly available.”
