Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN anchor Jake Tapper that he does not expect to be remembered as a hero.

During an interview that aired on Sunday’s “State of the Union,” Zelensky spoke with Tapper in Lviv, Ukraine, about a wide range of topics — including the possibility that he might not survive the ongoing war with Russia.

“There is a chance that you will not survive this war,” Tapper said, addressing the elephant in the room directly. “The Russians have made it clear that they consider you a Nazi … etc … all that nonsense.”

“How do you want the Ukrainian people to remember you? How do you want your son and daughter to remember you?” Tapper asked.

The Ukrainian actor and comedian-turned president made it clear that notoriety was not his goal. “A human being that loved life to the fullest. And loved his family and loved his motherland. Definitely not a hero,” he answered with the help of a translator.

“I want people to take me as I am: a regular human,” Zelensky concluded.

Despite Zelensky’s stated wishes, many have already held the Ukrainian leader up as a hero of sorts, noting that he — with the help of his intelligence officers and his security forces — has already foiled several assassination attempts.

As The Daily Wire reported:

An assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was foiled and a Russian hit squad was “destroyed” after Ukrainians were tipped off by Russian spies, a Ukrainian official said Tuesday on Ukrainian television.

Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said “that his country received information about a planned assassination attempt on President Volodymyr Zelensky from agents of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB),” National Review reported.

“I can say that we received information from representatives of the FSB, who today have no desire to take part in this bloody war,” Danilov said.

Comedian Bill Maher even noted in a recent episode of his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher” that Zelensky was proving that people loved — and needed — examples of “grown-a** men.”

““It’s not always a great advantage being a man, and toxic though we may be, we do sometimes come in handy,” Maher said. “He can’t share right now; he’s killing Russians. Turns out after 200,000 years there’s still a lot of ‘another tribe is coming to kill us.’ And when that happens, you want a little ‘big d**k energy.’”

Maher went on to say that while the experts might all claim that women wanted men who were sensitive and good listeners, there was certainly a need for men who were willing to seek out what needed fixing and take care of it.

“Zelensky is not just listening, he’s fixing the problem,” he said.
