Daily Mail columnist Meghan McCain launched a lengthy tirade against “moronic” President Joe Biden, saying that her personal experience with COVID-19 had convinced her that America would never recover as long as he remained in charge.
“It was easy for the media to — rightfully — blame Trump for the bungling of the early Covid-19 response, but Biden and his feckless, moronic, isolated Titanic of an administration gets the blame now,” McCain wrote, arguing that three years into a pandemic, better testing and treatment options should have been available — especially in the United States.

McCain said that her husband, The Federalist’s Ben Domenech, was first to fall ill — and because at-home rapid tests were all but impossible to find, his best option was to stand outside in the cold, waiting in line to be tested at a clinic. His test, despite the fact that he was fully vaccinated, was positive. And hers — a rapid test delivered by a family member — was also positive despite vaccination.
“We live fifteen minutes away from the White House, in the United States of America. Why is it so hard to get an at-home Covid test?” McCain asked, adding, “In isolation, I started ruminating as to whether the last days of American greatness were finally upon us, like so many pundits have been circulating over the past few years.”
“For a pandemic that is in its third year, shouldn’t we have more readily available treatment and testing? For as much information as I know and as much as I have been exposed to, there was not much more than sleeping, Gatorade, Tylenol and a neti pot to treat Covid-19,” she continued.
McCain pointed back to Biden’s oft-repeated campaign promise — that he would “shut down the virus,” but he would never shut down the country.
“I didn’t vote for the man (or Trump) but I had higher hopes for a better preparedness for the country and the fight to at least mitigate Covid more than a year into the Biden administration,” she continued. “Inflation is rising, it feels like we will have Covid omnipresent for the rest of my lifetime and we are more divided than at any time in history since the Civil War.”
McCain went on to address the idea of post-COVID depression — something she said that she has experienced in the weeks since testing positive.
“I am a pretty optimistic person by nature and this has been hard for me to shake both physically and emotionally. I can’t fathom how people without support, resources and international columns to tell their story feel,” she wrote. “No wonder there is a pandemic of depression, suicides and malaise.”
McCain said that she had hoped Biden would boost morale and that his administration would have worked to make treatments and testing available before it was needed, repeating several times the refrain: “Everything keeps getting worse.”
“I still refuse to succumb to the left’s propaganda that America’s greatest days are behind her,” McCain said, calling for a shift away from the tone and leadership of the Biden administration thus far.
“Maybe this is the best that Biden and his administration thinks America has to offer or deserves, but I assure you there will be others out there who do not feel that way. And they will not let this country continue to be this sick – physically, emotionally, financially. We are Americans, we can do so much better than this and we owe it to ourselves and the generations ahead of us to do better,” she concluded. “Biden may not believe in morning in America, but I sure as hell still do, just not under his failed leadership.”
