Singer and former Disney Channel star Selena Gomez admitted that she’s the “happiest she’s ever been.” (Disclosure: The Daily Wire has announced plans for kids entertainment content.)

The “Only Murders in the Building” star stopped by “Good Morning America” to discuss a variety of issues, including her self-imposed social media ban that’s had surprising positive effects.

“I haven’t been on the internet in 4 1/2 years,” the 29-year-old actress told “GMA” during an interview broadcast on Monday. “It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal.”

According to Forbes, social media sites have been linked to “less moment-to-moment happiness and less life satisfaction” and can lead to feelings of jealousy. Experts note the positives of staying connected with people far away but also recommend taking breaks as well.

Gomez also discussed her bipolar diagnosis and how it has affected her life. She said it was “really freeing to have the information” and put a name to what she was experiencing.

“After years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar and so when I go to know more information, it actually helps me,” the actress told Miley Cyrus during an Instagram Live discussion. “It doesn’t scare me once I know it. I think people get scared of that, right?”

She said in the case of being bipolar, being armed with information was crucial. “When I finally said what I was gonna say, I wanted to know everything about it and it took the fear away,” Gomez told Cyrus. “When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms, and my mom bought me all these different books on thunderstorms, [saying], ‘The more that you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not gonna be afraid.’ And it completely worked.”

While speaking with “GMA,” the Disney alum also talked about her plans for the next decade of her life following her milestone birthday this July. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to step into this chapter alone, independently, strong, confidently,” she said. “That’s all I really want, you know? I’m excited [to turn 30].”

Previously, Gomez dated fellow celebrities including Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and Russian-German DJ Zedd. The singer alluded to “emotional abuse” during her romantic partnership with Bieber, which is a concept she’s explored in lyrics to her songs.

The star said, “I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making.”

“As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible,” Gomez explained.
