Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tried to disrupt President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, briefly chanting “Build the Wall” after he made a comment about stemming the tide of illegal immigration.

During his remarks, Biden thanked retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer for his service to the United States — and touted his nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson — before pivoting to address the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Folks, if we’re to advance liberty and justice we need to secure our border and fix the immigration system,” he said.

Biden paused as the audience applauded, and as the applause began to die down, several people could be heard chanting “Build the wall! Build the wall!”

“Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tried to have a ‘You lie’ moment. When Biden spoke of securing the borders, Greene stood and chanted, ‘Build the wall.’ Ignored by her peers, one lawmaker could be heard telling her to sit down,” Greg Bluestein tweeted.

Greene also joined Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) in deliberately ignoring Biden’s cabinet.

While most did not join Greene in attempting to disrupt the president’s speech, a number were very critical of Biden’s calls to secure the border — particularly after his administration has implemented policies that do little if anything to stem the flow of illegal immigration across the southern border while rejecting many of former President Donald Trump’s border policies that were effective.

Congressman Greg Steube responded in a tweet, saying, “Joe Biden says he wants to secure our Southern border, but empty promises won’t fix the fact that since he’s taken office, two million illegal immigrants have been apprehended and released into our country.”

A tweet from America Rising read, “Biden: ‘We need to secure our border and fix the immigration system’ Meanwhile, under Biden: ‘Migrant encounters on southern border increase in January, almost double numbers from 2021.’”

“Biden calls for the Southern border to be secured. Migrant encounters for FY’22 are already up 126% compared to FY’21 which was the highest year on record. 220,000 ‘gotaways’ since October,” FOX LA’s Bill Melugin added. “Much of the technology he talked about was never built after wall projects cancelled.”

And former acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf weighed in as well, tweeting, “That mention of border and immigration security was lip service. Nothing more. No vision, no strategy. Just a wish list and another hollow push for immigration reform legislation. I think the President may have forgotten he has authority to fix the crisis NOW.”
