According to research carried out by Bumble, whether or not people have been vaccinated could have an impact on their online dating life.

“Dating app Bumble surveyed roughly 1,000 Americans in May, and 30% of them said they wouldn’t go on a date or have sex with someone who hadn’t received the COVID-19 vaccine,” reported CNET.

This could be driven by the fact that multiple dating apps have moved to both make it easier to determine who is and isn’t vaccinated against COVID-19 on their platforms, and to encourage users to get vaccinated.

“Social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination.  So today, dating sites like Bumble, Tinder, Hinge, Match, OkCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, and Badoo are announcing a series of features to encourage vaccinations and help people with that univer- — help people meet people who have that universally attractive quality: They’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19,” Andy Slavitt, a COVID-19 adviser in the Biden administration, said in May.

“These dating apps will now allow vaccinated people to display badges which show their vaccination status, filter specifically to see only people who are vaccinated, and offer premium content — details of which I cannot get into, but apparently, they include things like boosts and super swipes.  The apps will also help people locate places to get vaccinated,” Slavitt added.

“Tinder and The White House are helping Gen Z get vaccinated ahead of a summer to remember. A recent survey showed that more than half of Gen Z are only interested in going on dates with people who are vaccinated,” Tinder announced in a press release. “To get our members a date with the vaccine, Tinder has teamed up with The White House to help locate their nearest vaccination site.”

“Tinder is also enabling members to display stickers such as ‘Vaccinated’ or ‘Vaccines Save Lives’ on their profile. From June 9th through July 4th, those who participate will receive a free Super Like,” Tinder added.

In the United Kingdom, numerous dating apps also allowed users to display their vaccination status, while providing those who had been vaccinated with “perks.”

“Tinder, Hinge, Bumble and other dating apps will allow more users to show whether they have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and roll out perks to those who say they have received a jab,” CNN reported in June. “The platforms will give British users the option of displaying their vaccination status, they announced on Monday, after partnering with the UK government to encourage younger people to come forward for a coronavirus shot.”

“They cited a poll by British firm YouGov that showed nearly two-thirds of adults would either prefer to date a vaccinated person or would rule out dating someone who is not vaccinated,” CNN added.

Similar to Tinder’s “Super Like” perk, “Hinge will give users a free ‘Rose’ to give to potential matches, while Bumble will give non-paying customers discounts on premium features.”
