Following an absolutely wild weekend of college football, the shake up in the rankings was bound to be exciting.
Now, what really matters is the College Football Playoff Committee’s rankings which come out on Tuesday, but it’s always interesting to see how the rest of the college football world views the top-25.
Georgia is No. 1 for the seventh consecutive week after blasting Georgia Tech 45-0. It’s the third shutout of the year for the Bulldogs defense, as they end their regular season schedule giving up a ridiculous 6.9 points per game. Georgia heads to Atlanta to take on Alabama in the SEC Championship Game Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
Michigan makes the biggest jump of the week following their dominant performance against Ohio State. Jim Harbaugh’s first win over Ohio State catapults the Wolverines to the No. 2 ranking in the AP top-25 and into the BIG 10 Championship Game against No. 15 Iowa on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Michigan running back Hassan Haskins rushed for 169 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, frustrating an Ohio State defense that was only allowing 103.5 yards on the ground coming into “The Game.”
“When you work this game 365 days out of the year and you come up short, it’s a failure,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said. “It hurts, it hurts a lot.”
Cincinnati (No. 3) and Alabama (No. 4) swap spots after both won over the weekend.
Alabama somehow found a way to beat Auburn in a four overtime Iron Bowl, but needed heroics from quarterback Bryce Young to do so.
The Crimson Tide made a ton of mistakes — including a botched fourth quarter field goal attempt and 11 penalties for 129 yards — but Heisman contender Bryce Young made the big plays when Alabama needed it most, including a 28-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Corey Brooks with 0:24 seconds left in the fourth quarter to send the game into OT.
Oklahoma State jumps two spots to No. 5 following their win over Oklahoma in the Bedlam Series.
Oklahoma State will play No. 9 Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game next Saturday, and are making a serious case to be considered for the CFP. Back-to-back wins against two top-10 teams and a conference championship would be hard for the selection committee to overlook.
Notre Dame comes in at No. 6, and will need some help to get into the CFP as they will not have a conference championship game to gain another quality win. Ohio State drops to No. 7, followed by Ole miss (8), Baylor (9), and Oregon (10).
Clemson makes an appearance in the top-25, coming in at No. 22, while UTSA drops out completely following their first loss of the season to North Texas on Saturday.
