Parents are infuriated after learning a first-year high school English class in Northern Virginia allowed students to read a book that discussed young adults performing oral sex on one another.

Loudoun County Public School district (LCPS) in Virginia — one of the most affluent school districts in the nation — approved the book “Monday’s Not Coming” by Tiffany Jackson. The book explores issues such as race, mental illness, sexuality, and media bias. It was taught to honors English students at Stone Bridge High School.

Parents are upset because there is “graphic sexual language” and borderline “pornographic content” that is presented “in the classroom setting.”

The concerned parent organization “Parents Against Critical Theory” sent an email to the administration asking why educators are advocating for “promiscuous actions.” The email listed a slew of inappropriate phrases from the book, including some of the 30-plus phrases that included the word “f***.”

The list included phrases such as:

  • “Whatever April. You don’t even go to this school. You just here to get some d***.” (page 207)
  • “She sucked my d***” (page 248)
  • “Is she f***ing all of them” (page 251)
  • “Darrell, didn’t you f*** my sister?” (page 264)
  • “F***ING P***Y!” (page 299)
  • “Man, f*** you then dumb b****” (page 339)
  • “That b**** is out like a f***ing turkey!” (page 348)

The Daily Wire obtained a copy of the concerned parent groups presentation. It highlights the explicative excerpts, including excerpts alluding to potential sexual assault and oral sex.

“‘Me and Monday… We did do something.’ He took a deep breath. ‘She… sucked my d***. I didn’t really want it to happen, it just kinda… did,’” the presentation reads. “Her top lip curled up. ‘Wait a minute, is that what was really going on? She did your homework and you [ate] her c****ie! Is that why you crying? ‘Cause Monday’s not around to do your homework no more?’”

[WARNING: Graphic Language]

Parents tell The Daily Wire that they feel uncomfortable with these topics being openly discussed with students in the classroom. Mother Karlee Copeland feels the district is trying to subvert the role of parents by teaching such “sexually explicit reading.”

“What I don’t agree with is distribution of child pornography or sexually explicit reading materials in the classroom. My role as a mother is to ensure my children’s innocence is protected for as long as reasonably possible,” Copeland said. “I take great offense to the school system trying to subvert my role.”

Another mother, Elicia Brand, told The Daily Wire that other parents chastise parents such as herself and Copeland who take problem with the required reading. Proponents of the reading, said Brand, make statements like, “who cares? They know this stuff already anyway.” “They have access to the internet,” or “They have seen it and hear it all. So what?”

“First of all, no,” Brand said. “Not all kids search for that on the internet … Our schools certainly do not need to hand it over to them, especially with our tax dollars. Secondly, it violates policy to force kids to read books with this kind of context in it. It is sexual harassment.”

LCPS spokesman Wayde Byard told The Daily Wire that parents may request an alternate assignment for their child if they feel the school’s literature choices are inappropriate.

“LCPS reminds parents that if they feel a book is not appropriate for their student, they may request an alternate text be assigned,” Byard said. “There will be no academic penalty for a student should they request an alternate text to fulfill an assignment.”
